Condiționala de tipul I arată o situație posibilă: „if” + prezent, iar în principală „will” + infinitiv. „Unless” înseamnă „dacă nu”: „Unless you hurry, you will miss the bus.” (= If you don't hurry…). După „if” și „unless” nu se folosește „will”. La fel, în propozițiile temporale introduse de when, until, as soon as, before, after, by the time, viitorul se exprimă prin prezent: „Wait here until I come back.”
